Fun Hair Day

During General Conference weekend, where we get to listen to our Church leaders on the TV or Internet, the girls had fun doing hair.

Some of you may have heard of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I was surprised when Carly asked me, "Do they practice at all?" I said, "Well, yeah, I think they probably practice a lot." She said, "Then how come they need the words?"

With so much going on in our world today, I appreciate our leaders' hope and optimism.

"Obedience provides protection from spiritual and physical danger...There are angels round about to bear us up...Though the storm clouds will come, the Lord will sustain us" (Elder Russell M. Nelson).

"Fear not. The future is as bright as your faith" (Elder Nelson quoting Pres. Thomas S. Monson).

"God knows us and watches over us, but it's often through others that he answers our prayers" (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf).

"The only way to see the views is to make the climb. The challenges of labor proceed the miracles of birth...Angels will attend us" (Elder Johnson).

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (St. John 14:27).

Robyn's National Anthem

Robyn has had the chance to be in a school choir for the first time this year, and has really enjoyed it. She's had fun with friends and singing songs in different languages. She's also had some neat opportunities, like singing the National Anthem with her choir for a semi-professional basketball game.

After singing, they made a tunnel for the players to run through and the mascot to ride his Harley through. It was pretty fun and exciting for everyone. The girls thought the free noise makers were pretty cool, too.

"Grafs" by Carly

I think this was probably the timed writing assessment that Carly's teacher was referring to when she talked about Carly's "passion for writing" and her "voice," which "is unfortunately not part of the grading at this level yet."  I think whoever read her story was blessed with a bit of comic relief.

The Gift that keeps on Giving

After Carly Noel was born, I came home from the hospital to a fun sign on the door, a clean house, and a beautiful Christmas cactus, thanks to Myles' mom and sister. It's been so much fun to have a plant as old as Carly, watching both of them bloom and grow.

As we're getting ready to leave the country, I mentioned to Carly that it would be nice to give her plant to someone while it was so pretty. She came up with one of our elderly neighbors and was really sweet about gladly sharing it with her.

Grandma's Great!

We taught Myles' grandma a brand-new game, and she beat us all!
This almost 92-year-old amazing woman is as sharp as a tack and one of the hardest workers I know. We love her help, her smiles, and her fun Australian accent. We're thankful for the time we could live by her, and that our girls could get to know their Great Grandma!

The Sweetest Blessing

How's that for a newborn smile?!

A Double Feature

This was the biggest double rainbow I'd ever seen--a good reminder that beauty follows the storms.

Sometimes...

Little Miss Macy is as sweet and calm as can be.

Other times, she's crazy and fun!

You put your hands back and do it agen.

I love my family.

Carly's story was so long that I told her we could preserve it this way, by taking a pic. and typing it out. I love that she loves to write. (What can I say? I'm biased. I remember writing my first "real" story, "The Pet I Want" in first grade, just like her). At parent teacher conferences, her teacher said it's a shame they don't give points for "voice" because she already has a great one.

More Fun at Preschool

I got to read to Macy's preschool class, and this was her first book of choice, We're All in the Same Boat by Zachary Shapiro. It's a cute story with fun vocabulary. We also read The Napping House by Audrey and Don Wood, and Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey.

Myles made stomp rockets with Macy's class, and the kids had a "blast!" It's as simple as a few PVC pipes and a 2 liter bottle. Cheap fun that lasts for hours. Myles says, "The pictures of the kids with the stomp rockets prove that they had almost as much fun as I did."
